Here are some images of my wood lamp. I have stained and glued the two pieces together.

Single Stain, I might apply another layer later.

More to come later. Thank You for viewing.

Today I successfully cut the paper lamp with the laser cutter. Pictures to come later.

Progress on wood lamp.

I had to seal the wood together with separate pieces of wood in varying sizes.
Clamped in place to assure a tight fit.

Paper Lighting Project

We were assigned a new lighting project in my product design 410 class. We have an objective to design and build a lamp (hanging/wall/desk) out of a 3x3 foot sheet of paper. With this assignment we had to do some research on lighting.

Ingo Maurer (suspension lamp)- I love the simplicity of this lamp and the ambient lighting it can create. I would love to work on a project like this however I find it wouldn't have the same affect in the use of a 3x3 foot piece of paper.

Simply awesome.

I want to experiment with making my own paper and possibly drying it in organic forms so I can achieve the same affect.

This is amazing. I have access to a laser cutter where I can easily achieve such forms and cuts like this. I originally didn't want to mess with a lamp like this but I recently found that it could be extremely fun trying to create something like this that I could flat pack and easily construct with no instruction.
Here are the bendy ply slats that I have to glue and tape wrapped around my molds. There are three layers of bendy ply for each mold which should provide enough strength and rigidity for the final model.
Application of the wood glue to the slats. I had to apply way more glue than I originally thought.
Here was my first attempt at getting the molds to sit properly in the bag. I placed a piece of wood in between the small and large mold to prevent the two from connecting. The piece of wood ended up pushing the molds out from the surrounding slats which consequently caused me to rethink my plan.
In the end I separated them and placed a towel in between the two so they would have adequate space to act alone but still have enough air equally to create suction.
Out of the bag and drying. I clamped them so they could continue drying in a dry environment and maintain their shape.
